Know your Veggie Crops
Production methods used at Dayton Urban Grown Farm
Production methods used at Dayton Urban Grown Farm
In this online zoom class, Lisa will show how we prepare beds and start plants or seed and which crops are direct seeded vs. transplanted. Then we will go crop by crop discussing planting techniques, pest management, watering, interplanting, pruning, trellising and more.
This class would be suitable for home gardeners or small scale market gardeners that already know at least the basics.
There is a sliding scale in place for those who are hard hit financially but please be honest to evaluate that as to leave those for people that need it. A guide is pictured below in comments. If you can chip in extra or make donations I would appreciate it!
Our teacher, Lisa Helm, is a Master Organic Gardener, Permaculture Certified and has studied small scale, year round regenerative vegetable production with some of the most successful farmers in the country. She has been a guest speaker at events including the National Community Garden Association Conference, the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association Conference The KY OAK Conference, the WA Tilth Conference and others. She founded Garden Station in 2008 and hosted workshops and EarthFest for as many as 5000 attendees there before the city sold the space to a developer. The hoophouses from Garden Station found a new home at Dayton Urban Grown Cooperative’s new training farm in downtown Dayton where they currently produce over 20K worth of vegetables annually on 1/10 of an acre. She is also working on writing a regenerative vegetable farmer training program to help increase the number of sustainable local farms in the area.
