Important bills to support/oppose Here’s how…

Parental Rights Bill in SenateVital Senate Floor Vote Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend the hearings on Thursday. It really does make a huge difference even if you don’t testify. They know you are watching!

The bill below might look familiar because a similar House bill was heard this past week. It is common for legislative priorities that there will be copies of bills in each chamber, so this means that both the House and Senate feel this is important to accomplish this year.

Thursday, February 23rd, N.H. Senate
Senate Floor Vote

OPPOSE- SB58, relative to arrests without a warrant while in the care of a medical professional on the premises of a residential care or health care facility. This bill lowers the threshold needed for a warrantless arrest in medical facilities. According to this bill, “actual or threatened violence” can cause warrantless arrest. While we appreciate the real issue regarding workplace violence in medical facilities, we worry reducing the burden of proof needed, could lead to abuse. If a patient refuses to wear a mask, could they be accused of “threatening violence”? Additionally, the point has been made that it requires the police to determine what is “medically necessary treatment” and this is not an appropriate role for the police.
Your emails during the committee process were so influential, that the sponsors voted against it in committee. Last year this bill passed the senate 24-0. Currently it has an ITL recommendation going to the senate floor.
Please email the senators and urge them to support the ITL recommendation.
