Vet the Vote – October 7th, 10am-1pm Calling on Veterans to volunteer to work the polls on election day

Please share this event with your Veteran constituents.

Veteran New Hampshire citizens are invited to join Vet the Vote on October 7th for an event with New Hampshire Secretary of State David M. Scanlan. This event is to encourage New Hampshire veterans to serve as poll workers in their communities, especially during the upcoming Presidential Primary. To that end, the Secretary of State’s Office is hosting a public event with Vet the Vote and Merrimack Moderator Lynn Christensen, as follows:

            WHEN: Saturday, October 7, 2023, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: James Mastricola Upper Elementary School, 26 Baboosic Lake Road,

Merrimack, NH

During the event, veterans and any other interested members of the public will have the opportunity to walk through a mock polling place set up for election day. New Hampshire election officials, many of them veterans, will explain the process to participants each step of the way and answer any questions about how elections work in New Hampshire.

Attendees will get a firsthand look at how elections in New Hampshire are run and why the Granite State has one of the highest voter turnout rates in the country.

New Hampshire veterans who are interested in attending should arrive anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Veterans and members of the public who plan to attend the event should register using the following link by 10:00 a.m. on 10/6/2023:

David Scanlan, New Hampshire Secretary of State:

“By taking an active role in New Hampshire elections, our local veterans can continue to serve their country and local community. Our elections are sound and transparent, and we are certain that veterans who heed our call to volunteer as poll workers will only strengthen the public’s trust in our election process.”

Ellen Gustafson, Co-executive Director, Vet the Vote:

“On behalf of We the Veterans & Military Families, I’m thrilled to represent the Vet the Vote Coalition of organizations in the Granite State to ensure that veterans and their families are aware of how they can serve the country again as poll workers in upcoming elections.  New Hampshire has an important role in our presidential elections, and we want to make sure veterans and military families know how they can be a part of it.”

Many Veterans are always looking for ways to continue serving and to keep engaged with society as a whole. I think this is most evident by the high number of Veterans who serve with us in the House. Let’s share this and see if we can’t get some of them to help with our elections, while simultaneously helping them with their inherent desire to serve.

Generally speaking, it has been my experience that Veterans are some of the most non-partisan groups of people in our society. They are mission oriented and will care more about accomplishing that mission than anything else. The politics of it, is just background noise to them, that can only get in the way of the mission and thus irrelevant. Exactly the qualities that, in my opinion, we want in our election workers.

As always, thank you for your continued support in helping our Vets.

Sincerely,

Terry
