| CONTACT YOUR STATE REPS TODAY  This Thursday February 1st at 10:00 AM, the New Hampshire House of Representatives will convene to vote on bills that are already quickly coming out of committee after the first four weeks of the legislative session. Two of the bills in particular demand our attention, as they are indicative of a society collapsing in on itself. One bill (actually a Constitutional Amendment) supports abortion ultimately until the moment of birth; the other bill seeks to give the state a stronger legal framework to use biological sex–as opposed to gender identity–as a means to organize people in its care. We have wandered so far from Eden! The Genesis narrative tells us that God breathed His life into us, created us in His image as male and female, and blessed us to be fruitful and multiply (see Genesis 1.26-31). Miraculous! The Fall has hit us hard. The prevailing culture would now have us believe that the most enlightened solution for the scared young mother facing an unexpected pregnancy is to terminate the life of the defenseless baby in utero; and that the best course of action for the soul struggling with legitimate identity issues is to encourage a burgeoning narrative of self-deception. Isn’t it striking that we’ve reached a such a point in our human story that we need to write a defense of “maleness” and “femaleness” into our civic laws? We are all called to grace and truth (see John 1.17). In our personal relationships with those connected to an abortion story or to an identity story, let us emphasize grace, pointing to Truth incarnate. In the realm of human government, let us emphasize truth, motivated by Grace. A culture that encourages the killing of its own young and that hastens the erasure of the sexes is indeed in danger of toppling over. Jesus–Truth Incarnate–has come to set us free from human solutions that ultimately lead to death. Will we cooperate with Him at this hour? Will you take two minutes to contact your state representatives, asking them to vote NO on CACR 23 and YES on HB 396?See below for more details & talking points. CACR 23: Providing that all persons shall have the right to abortion prior to 24 weeks CONTACT your State Reps here, asking them to OPPOSE CACR 23  UNDERSTAND the Constitutional Amendment for yourself:This proposed constitutional amendment masquerades as establishing a constitutional right to abortion prior to 24 weeks; however, the text of the amendment throws the door wide open to unlimited abortion in the Granite State.CACR 23 asserts that abortion will be allowed before 24 weeks, but after that allows abortion if a doctor determines it is needed, which could be for any reason, including the desires of the mother. In other words, it legalizes all abortion both before and after 24 weeks, including when the child is viable. While some may support a constitutional right to abortion, one cannot ignore the grave extremity of this proposed amendment in permitting the unrestricted abortion of pre-born infants, infants who could be delivered on the day of the abortion and survive. The position of the New Hampshire legislators supporting this constitutional amendment is not only extreme, but out of touch with the 68%* of Granite Staters who favor limits on abortion.* From a 2022 St. Anselm Poll.  HB 396: An ACT Relative to the State Definition of Biological SexCONTACT your State Reps here, asking them to SUPPORT HB 396 UNDERSTAND the Bill for yourself: School districts around New Hampshire are faced with a crisis of extreme gender ideology: progressive advocacy groups, and New Hampshire’s Department of Justice, have spread the false idea that New Hampshire law prohibits any separation on the basis of biological sex. These claims have deceived many schools and other public entities into bowing to gender ideology. Most now use self-declared gender identity alone to separate athletics and private areas, without regard to whether someone has even received medical transitioning.HB 396 will address these misrepresentations by clarifying that public entities are not forbidden from differentiating between the biological sexes in athletic competitions, prisons, locker rooms, restrooms, or places of intimate privacy. The bill will not even require any school board or state agency to change their current policies. This is a straightforward bill that preserves the state’s ability to differentiate between biological sexes in areas such as athletic competitions, prisons, restrooms, or places of intimate privacy. HB 396 will directly address the immediate issue of instances of biological males not only using the female locker room, but deliberately insulting the privacy and dignity of biological girls. COMING NEXT WEEK! Defend New Hampshire Against Assisted Suicide Act now: sign in in opposition to HB 1283. Once again, legislators are introducing an assisted suicide bill in Concord. HB 1283, relative to end of life options, would legalize physician-assisted suicide for those facing an illness which a physician has determined would be terminal within 6 months. HB 1283 has been scheduled for a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, February 7th at 10:00am in the Legislative Office Building, Room 206-208. Although the bill contains what some may feel are “reasonable” restrictions, we only need look to Canada, where over 4% of the population used assisted suicide to end their own lives in 2022, to see how ever-broadening criteria can lead to alarming numbers of assisted suicide deaths and normalize state-sponsored end of life measures. WHAT YOU CAN DO: 1. Register your opposition to HB 1283 by signing in. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to sign in. 2. Submit written testimony. You can do this when you sign in. Simply hit “choose file” under step number four to upload a document with your testimony, or type your testimony into the provided box. 3. We urge you to come and testify in person, especially if you fall under or know someone who falls under any of the following categories:Someone who has struggled with suicidal ideationA member of the disability community A member of the brain injury communitySomeone who has cared for a terminally ill loved one or an elderly individualWe have step-by-step instructions on how to testify here. You can also reach out to us at cornerstone@nhcornerstone.org if you have any questions about the testifying process. Important Note: Some have had issues with the House remote sign-in page. You can find their contact info here or email the full committee at HouseJudiciaryCommittee@leg.state.nh.us Please mark your calendars and let us know if you can come to be present to pray, observe/support, or testify. Assisted suicide should never be a course of action the state should promote. Caring, not killing, is the right approach when we’re faced with terminal illness or any distressing life situation.  Schedule A Concord 101 TodayThe 2024 Legislative Session has now begun!Book a Concord 101 for your church, class, or group today.
