Public hearing on HB1473 SEL Bill
The BILL will be presented with an amendment making SEL an opt-in. That means parents will have to consent to their children participating in Social and Emotional learning in school.
PLEASE SUPPORT HB1473 TELL THE House Ed Committee Members:
NO to SEL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES or ASSESSMENTS without parental consent.
Some main talking points are:
**SEL is the definition of mental health, so this brings mental health into the classroom.
**SEL is something ALL students participate in now.
**SEL data means mental health data is now collected on all students.
**ALL SEL programs in the schools have to go through CASEL approval. WATCH this short video:

Academics no longer matter. They want the WHOLE child.
**Since SEL is mental health in the classroom, schools are required to obtain parent consent per federal law ESSA, but schools are not getting consent from parents.

This is where they focus on changing a child’s values. (CRT, etc)
Here are Arizona’s Competencies for SEL. NOTE that they include DIVERSITY as a Competency a child must pass. That’s how they bring in CRT.
Some of the programs they are using in the schools could be good programs. The problem is, they are not always getting consent from parents.
