| Friends, Following are some recommendations regarding the Town Meeting vote on March 12 and a few events of note. VOTING MARCH 12, 2024 See the SAMPLE BALLOT for March 12, 2024. Please vote at the high school between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM or VOTE ABSENTEE if you will be out of town. We have some recommendations and some endorsements, but as always, use your own judgement based on what you’ve learned about the issues. Article 2: VOTE YES Please note that a vote of 60% would be necessary to pass Article 2. A member of the Charter Commission sent us this information which you should read before voting day on March 12. It’s a lot of information so it would be best to get started reading/watching it soon.  To Change the Charter or Not? Also, here is a videotaped discussion by Charter Commission Members Article 3/Amendment 3: VOTE NO The Planning Board has recommended a NO vote for this item. The problem is that while we agree that newer homes should not be subject to historic district rules we still would like to protect homes that are truly ‘historic’. Until such time as historic district rules can be changed to apply ONLY to those homes that are actually historic by virtue of date built, we agree with this recommendation. We are willing to help support a future amendment that would remedy the situation for the owners of newer homes while continuing to protect those older homes. Article 4: VOTE NO Our taxes just went up considerably. They will go up again if this new station is passed. Keep in mind that more apartment buildings means more services, and often those buildings do not pay taxes for 10 years. Finally, we urge you to vote for PHIL GREAZZO and BECKY SOULE for Town Council. *Please note that our recommendation to vote for these candidates does NOT necessarily indicate their support for, or against, any of the items above. We also take no donations from members or candidates. If you would like a lawn sign for either candidate, please contact them at the links above. EVENTS MARCH 3, 2024 – MEET CANDIDATES THE LIONS CLUB BREAKFAST Join the Lions Club on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Bedford Old Town Hall for a pancake breakfast from 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM. There is no cost, but a donation is in order. MARCH 20, 2024 – HOUSING FORUM 2 It is important that you attend this forum as they are pushing for urbanization under state mandates. Read the REPORT from the first forum. Please feel free to send us your feedback. ~ BRA  |
