Town Election Day is March 12 for most towns in NH…

Local elections matter!

Please be sure to vote this Tuesday.

On Tuesday, March 12th, most NH towns will be holding elections for key local positions such as school board members, selectmen, moderators, trustees of various town entities, zoning boards, and supervisors of the checklists.

It’s easy to get caught up in national or state-wide races, but we often have no idea who is serving our towns and counties. Especially considering our decentralized form of government, that is no small tragedy.

Local elections matter.
We in New Hampshire have the rare privilege of local school and town elections as well as the opportunity to directly participate in the town and school budget process. Those elected to town and school district positions often go on to serve higher positions within our state government. In addition, it is these people who make decisions that deeply impact our day to day lives such as property tax rates and how local funds are used.

It’s also important to note our school board representatives serve as gatekeepers for what content is being taught in schools and what reading material is in our school libraries. Given recent high-profile debates over what material is appropriate to expose our impressionable children to, engagement by the body of Christ in local elections is more important than ever.

Find your town clerk’s website for all local polling information and a sample ballot or search the NH Secretary of State’s website.
