NH HOUSE

HB555 relative to required holocaust and genocide study requirements for an adequate public education.
OPPOSE
LOB room 205-207
This bill expands the holocaust and genocide study requirements for an adequate public
education to include at least 5 hours of discussion on different genocides and the United Nations.
*****Some of these topics should be included in the Social Studies Standards, not added in state statute. If these topics are included in Social Studies standards, they can then expand on exactly what should be taught.
*****Studying the Holocaust is already in current law. The addition of topics like the UN Resolution on Human Rights should not be included in state law. The UNRHR is a global document on human rights, it is NOT the United States Bill of Rights.
eg. in Article 29 (2) & (3) of the UNRHR states:
2) In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society.
3) These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.
******This is contrary to the United States Declaration of Independence which states clearly that human rights are natural. Where our rights come from GOD, not from the United Nations. (Read more about that here)
This needs to be SOUNDLY defeated. The goal is not to limit knowledge but to make sure the context is provided so students have a clear understanding that the UNRHR does not value the U.S. founding principles.
