| FLOOR VOTES WEEK OF MARCH 10, 2025 First, here is a great article from a town official in Durham, NH who is just as concerned as we are. https://www.fosters.com/story/opinion/columns/2025/03/10/selig-proposed-nh-zoning-law-changes-put-community-character-at-risk/81945608007/ Bills to destroy local control are being fast tracked through and new ‘commissions’ are being created to target zoning in certain towns. (See HB 471) In the Senate, Birdsell and Ricciardi were the ONLY TWO who voted AGAINST HB 399 and Ricciardi was the only one to vote AGAINST SB 188. While some say HB 399 is ‘only’ a study commission, their agenda is to move all zoning decisions to the STATE level, a one-size-fits-all, centralized approach. There is a reason there are 2,300 different zoning rules across the state. It’s because each town has different wants and needs. We are not sure if this bill can be vetoed but we requested that the Governor wake up and figure out how this and other bills are going against local control. We have sent email to the Reps who voted for HB 1291 last year, a bill that was stopped in the Senate on our behalf by Senator Ricciardi and former Senator Jeb Bradley. That bill would have eradicated all SF zoning. We got a few responses from died-in-the-wool anarchists who want to remove all zoning which would remove YOUR CHOICE to live in a single family neighborhood. They are likely not going to change their minds. However, many others told us they did not realize what they were voting for. We hope our email to them clarified the situation. Please access the HEARING PAGE to see what to do. (Most are FLOOR VOTES) https://bedfordresidents.com/bra/2025/03/10/hearing-dates-mar-10/ You can also download and see the FULL LIST of bills that may still be waiting for a committee vote, or for which we have no confirmed floor date. Here is what to do: https://bedfordresidents.com/bra/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BRA_Bill_Watch2025.pdf – Bills that have an upcoming public hearing date listed on the HEARING PAGE: ***Use the PORTAL for the House or Senate. – Bills that have HAD the public hearing but are still in committee waiting for a recommendation: ***Email the whole committee. – Bills that have had a committee vote and will go before the full body eventually and/or with floor date indicated: ***Email the full body or the targeted 68. – Bills that have passed both House and Senate that should be stopped: ***Write to the Governor to VETO. When writing to the House of Reps for floor votes, please consider targeting those who were among the 68 who voted wrongly on HB 1291 last year. 49 were re-elected and two moved on to the Senate. Remind them how these bills are chipping away at local control and shifting the tax burden onto the single-family homeowners. And more importantly, would be removing the choice of living style for 70% of all NH residents. YOU MAY DOWNLOAD THAT “68” LIST HERE https://www.bedfordresidents.com/bra/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/68Rep.xls Your help is appreciated! Have a great week. ~ BRA |
