| Legislative Updates for Week of 3/31-4/4 A slew of housing and zoning bills that chip away at local control were rushed through the Senate despite certain Senators (Ricciardi in particular) valiantly trying to protect your family neighborhoods. These bills have now been sent to the House Housing Committee, the stacked committee that will likely rubber stamp them as “Ought to Pass” (OTP). As of this writing we did not yet see public hearings scheduled so you might as well get a jump on them and email the whole committee and tell them you want them to deem ALL OF THESE as “Inexpedient to Legislate” (ITL). House Housing Committee emails can be found here: https://gc.nh.gov/house/committees/committeedetails.aspx?id=1711 These are the bills you want this committee to ITL. SB78 – overrides the rights of your local zoning board. SB81 – increases the amount of annual real estate transfer tax revenues that are transferred to the affordable housing fund. SB84 – overrides the rights of your local zoning board to set maximum lot sizes. SB163 – overrides the rights of your local zoning board. SB174 – overrides the rights of your local zoning board. SB188 – allows private entities to serve as code inspectors. SB281 – allows building on roads not maintained by the towns which is dangerous. SB284 – overrides the requirement for a certain number of parking spaces per unit. Let them know their seats will be in jeopardy if they do not stop this Housing DEI and attack on the middle class. You can also check the House Testimony Portal during the week in case hearings are scheduled after you receive this message: https://gc.nh.gov/house/committees/remotetestimony/ The full list of bills is here – some have moved to a Senate Committee with no hearing date but you can email the committee while waiting for the hearing date. https://www.bedfordresidents.com/bra/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/BRA_Bill_Watch2025.pdf We think Gov. Ayotte does not understand the consequences of passing these bills. CALL THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE AND DEMAND A CALL BACK: 1-603-271-2121 Explain that if these bills pass both bodies, she needs to VETO them. Remind her that she promised she would not “Mass Up NH” and that she needs to preserve local control and SINGLE FAMILY ZONES. KELLY.A.AYOTTE@GOVERNOR.NH.GOV (email seemed to work). Always remind your legislators that HOUSING and ZONING bills will chip away at local control and shift he tax burden onto the single-family homeowners. And more importantly, how they would remove the choice of living style for 70% of all NH residents while not helping increase the supply of affordable housing in the least. Central planning from the State is not preferable to 254 towns doing what their own residents want. EVENTS Representative Len Turcotte, former Chair of the House Municipal Committee, will be speaking to these groups for awareness of this issue. Contact the group to let them know you want to attend if you are not a member.
