Example of a letter, sent to the Senate, by a NH Citizen

To the Senate:

I write to oppose HB 463 and HB 447 and the current abusive system, where some people are above the law, some lawmakers are above their own rules and ethics guidelines, where the secretary of state and attorney general don’t even have to follow laws they write. Dishonorable lawmakers are allowed to lead others in making laws they expect the rest of us to follow.

I write to support returning to the spirit and intent of our constitutional principles that makes all of us at the local level responsible for making sure the count is right, whether counting by people or human eyes verifying computer counts. Under our current system, in violation of our constitution and laws, NO one is responsible, NO one is accountable to voters.

I ask you to support a truth and reconciliation process that can be a model for other states that have also heeded the siren’s call of feeding the insatiable hunger of the election and conflict industries exploited by insiders for personal and political gain. We see more and more individual public servants who look the other way and just “go along”, nothing they can do to change things, no longer feel honored to serve us ordinary people, which is a difficult job, I know. I want more of them (you) to be able to stay and work for a public good I still believe in and want to serve. I believe some of you want that, too.

There was a chance for a positive change earlier. The state Democratic Party Convention passed a resolution in 2014 to “preserve the integrity of the vote” and to “secure not only the right to vote, but also the assurance that every vote has been accurately counted” and “to support legislation to implement auditing state general and presidential primary election results.”

That effort was undermined. What could have become elections we have reason to trust and be proud of in 2024 has been stolen by deception and manipulation. One senator on the Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee has been a willing ally of that “machine” since at least 2014. Voters and taxpayers are the clear losers in the current system. That’s not sustainable.

A truth and reconciliation process would give immunity from civil and criminal prosecution to those most responsible for stealing the right of self-government from the people of NH and the allies who have protected and enabled them in this crime.

Those people would resign from office and agree never again to serve in an appointed or elected position of public trust or lobbyist anywhere. That agreement would be legally enforced by any citizen who becomes aware of the breach.

The rest of you would be liberated and no longer forced to “go along” with that system that requires you to agree that 2 plus 2 = 5, but can work with us voters across the political spectrum for positive change. We are all responsible.

Those of us who have been harmed and witnessed the harm done to others who stood up for voters would tell our stories. We would write a joint contract to prevent what has happened in NH and to us voters from ever happening again in our state.

We would return to the vision of our founders, sharing the most important job in a democracy, to make sure our votes and our neighbors’ votes are counted as voters intend. ELECTIONS WOULD BE ABOUT VOTERS, NOT POLITICIANS. Legislators, local election officials, all elected and appointed officials and the media would all be on the voters’ side instead of jockeying for a piece of the pie in an oppressive, abusive system that serves only the abusers and their allies and listens not to the voices, pleas of us ordinary folks. A government, like ours, that is against voters isn’t sustainable.

I ask that this be included in the legislative history for these two bills.

Honorably, and sorrowfully, I remain an unelected public servant
